Unlike the other eggplants, the Thai eggplant can be eaten raw usually paired with spicy dips. It is cultivated in India and Srilanka and serves as a popular cuisine. Thai eggplants are botanically classified as Solanum melongena. These are members of the Solanaceae, along with potatoes, tomatoes, and peppers. These eggplants are rich in nutrients and antioxidants are known to reduce heart diseases and benefit weight loss. They are cylindrical in shape averaging 2-3 cms in diameter. Thai eggplants are essential ingredients in many popular Thai curries as well.
